Institutional Research Charge
The Office of Institutional Research at Washington and Lee reports to the Provost and is charged to:• provide an authoritative source of current and historical University data • coordinate systematic collection of data needed for responses to internal and external requests for information: IPEDS, SCHEV, HEDS, various surveys (e.g. ACT, AMCAS, Chronicle Guidance, College Board, National Association of College Stores, National Beta Club, Newsweek/Kaplan, Peterson's, Princeton Review, US News & World Report, VFIC, Wintergreen/Orchard House)• verify, audit, and edit, as appropriate, Colleague and other databases' elements for consistency and to expand the information available for consistency, ease of retrieval, and improved usefulness (e.g. coordinate with Personnel for more information on faculty and with University Registrar on student information)• review University publications for consistency of information • serve administrative and academic departments of the university: assist in information collection, analyses, and dissemination; respond to f ormal and informal requests from offices and officers• compile, standardize, and publish in print and electronic formats Common Data Set, Fact Book, and other information requested for executive and managerial decision-making and institutional effectivenes s assessment• plan, develop, conduct and analyze occasional surveys to assess expectations, outcomes and satisfaction of students and other constituents of the University • assist departments and committees, to the extent possible, in developing internal sur veys• participate in relevant consortia and professional organizations (e.g. HEDS, ACS, VAMAP, VAG, AIR, AAHE) on behalf of the university and review data collection and dissemination practices against accepted codes of ethics, such as AIR and AACRAO • comm unicate regularly with all research and data collection individuals and groups on campus regarding data- collection resources and needs: finance, admissions and financial aid, alumni and development research, personnel, faculty grants office, law research, University Architect, etc.• serve on appropriate campus committees (Institutional Effectiveness, Administrative Systems Advisory, Codes Coordinating Committee, certain ad hoc assignments) in leadership or consulting roles, as appropriate • contribute to pl anning for academic and administrative units' self-assessment on a regular basis• contribute to planning process for next accreditation visit (e.g. SACS, AACSB, ACS, ACEJMC, AALS/ABA) • regularly evaluate Institutional Research Office effectiveness and, in conjunction with the President and the Institutional Research Group, revise charge or procedures as necessary
