President After her graduation from Washington & Lee in 1990, Rebecca attended law school at Rutgers University and clerked for the Honorable Irvin J. Snyder, Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, prior to entering into a private legal practice. While in the Philadelphia area, she became active in W&L alumni activities, serving on the local alumni board, and holding the position of Treasurer and Vice-President. Rebecca escaped the east coast and relocated to Denver in 2000, where she has continued her involvement in alumni activities, and is the immediate past President of the Rocky Mountain Alumni Chapter. She hung her own shingle in 2005 in downtown Denver and limits her legal practice to domestic relations matters. In addition to her alumni involvement and exploring the Colorado landscape, she continues to volunteer locally for the Volunteers of America in their Meals on Wheels program, as well as the Denver Film Society during the Starz Denver International Film Festival every Fall.
Joe is the General Partner of Keenan Capital, Ltd., a private investment partnership. In past years, he has served W&L in many capacities including the Board of the New Orleans Chapter of the W&L Alumni Association, Alumni Class Agent, Alumni Admissions Program Chairman, Parents Council and Reunion Co-Chairman. He currently is a member of the W&L Parents Council. In 1999, Joe was a recipient of the W&L 250th Anniversary Award. He and his wife, Michele, have three children: Keenan, Park '06, and Alden. CUMMINGS, JR. '91 Mr. Cummings is a Senior Executive Vice President of MBNA America and a member of the company's Senior Operating and Management Committees. Mr. Cummings is responsible for the Regional Marketing Division. He has held positions in Sector Marketing and has held several Regional Marketing positions. He also has experience in Executive Administration, TACS Telesales, New Account Activation and Quality Assurance. Mr. Cummings holds a bachelor's degree in Politics from Washington and Lee University. He is on the Board of the Interdisciplinary Council for Development and Learning Disorders and the Corporate Advisory Board of the Woodholme Foundation. Mr. Cummings also serves as Vice Chairman of the Washington and Lee University Annual Fund and as Co-Chair of the United Way's DeTocqueville Society. G. GARRETT
MOSELEY '88 Garrett is a Vice President with Rittenhouse/Nuveen Investments, Inc. Since graduation, Garrett has worked for First Union's Capital Management Group and Wachovia Securities Consulting Group in Charlotte. He received his Certified Investment Management Analyst designation in 1996. Garrett served as President of the Charlotte Chapter of the W&L Alumni Association in 1995; his chapter received the Small Chapter of the Year Award. Garrett interned in the White House with the Reagan Administration his senior year. Upon graduation, he continued with assignments for the Bush Administration and Bush/Quayle '92 and Dole '96 campaigns. Garrett was also a fellow with the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership and Leadership Charlotte. He is married to the former Ellen Gibson, alumna of Hollins University and UNC Chapel Hill. They have two children, Ellen Ambler and Margaret. DAVID D.
REDMOND '66, '69L Dave received his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee in 1966 and his law degree in 1969. While at Washington and Lee, Dave was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, an editor of the Washington and Lee Law Review, President of his law class, President of Sigma Nu social fraternity, captain of the soccer team and received a number of soccer awards, including twice being named to the All-South team. After serving as a captain in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, Dave joined the law firm of Christian & Barton in 1972 where he specializes in commercial real estate and corporate law. He is chairman of the real estate department of the law firm. He currently serves as Chairman-Elect of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph's Villa. Dave has served Washington and Lee as a Member of the Board and President of the Richmond Alumni Chapter, as a member of the Richmond Area Capital Campaign Committee, as a Law Class Agent (1975-95), as a Member of the Board of Directors and Past President of the Law Alumni Association and as a Member of the Alumni Board of Directors. Dave is married to the former Gigi Scott ( Hollins '68), and they have a son, Scott '94, and a daughter, Sarah. DAVID KERR
WEAVER '60 While at W&L, Dave served as President of Sigma Nu Fraternity, President of Openings Dance Set and Fancy Dress Ball, led the Sazeracs, and became a member of Omicron Delta Kappa. After four years in the Navy, he obtained a Masters and a Ph.D. degree in wildlife management at The University of Michigan. From 1971 to 1990, he was Director of Natural Resources Management for Hennepin Parks near Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dave then moved to Washington, D.C., as Grants Administrator for the North American Wetlands Conservation Fund administered by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, retiring in January 2002. He and his wife, Kitty, now live in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, Kitty's ancestral home. Their older son, David K. Weaver, Jr. (Deke) recently took a new job with the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign as Associate Professor of New Media. Younger son Mark S. Weaver lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, working as a freelance computer graphics specialist. As a W&L alum, Dave has been Class Agent for the past 13 years, Reunion Chairman and Co-Chairman, and is currently Chairman of the Class of 1960's Committee for The Institute for Honor. LEE RORRER
HOLIFIELD '93 Lee began her career in Enterprise Rent-A-Car's management training program shortly after graduation, and spent 10 years as the Recruiting Manager for Northeast Florida. She recently accepted a position as a Territory Recruiter with HSBC Consumer Lending Branch Operations and handles all college recruiting for the Southeast. She is the immediate Past President of the Duval County 4-H Foundation and currently serves as the endowment chair. In addition, she serves as secretary for the Ortega Preservation Society. She obtained a MBA from Jacksonville University in 2003. While at W&L, Lee served as house manager for the International House for two years and as chair of the Student Financial Relations Committee. Since graduation, she has served for 5 years as alumni chapter president and as reunion chair for her 10th reunion. Her husband, LCDR Mike Holifield, '89, is the Staff Judge Advocate for Carrier Strike Group 8 out of Naval Base Norfolk. Monika
Jaensson Hussell '93L Monika Hussell is presently a patent and intellectual property lawyer with the regional law firm of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, where she serves as a partner and the chair of the intellectual property practice group in West Virginia. Prior to her career at Dinsmore & Shohl, she advised and counseled clients on matters relating to patents, trademarks and innovative technology at the law firm of Jackson Kelly PLLC. Monika received her JD degree from Washington & Lee in 1993,having previously received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania. As a W&L alumna, Monika has served as the president and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Charleston, West Virginia Alumni Association. She also received the Distinguished Young Alumna Award from Washington & Lee in 2003. Monika is currently the Senior Warden of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, and chairperson of corporate sponsorship for High Hopes: Girls' Night Out, a fundraiser for the Young Womens’ Christian Association, Resolve Family Abuse Program. Monika and her husband John ('94L) have made their home in Charleston, and are raising two boys, Quint (7) and Kristian (4). HARRY D.
LETOURNEAU, JR. '71 A native of Annapolis, MD, Buddy runs his own retained search firm that is dedicated to working with clients who desire high levels of personal attention, meticulous detail and interactive communication and consulting throughout the search process. Prior to forming this practice, he was a Managing Director of Diversified Search, of Philadelphia, PA. Earlier, he was President and Chief Executive of Staff Leasing Group of Bradenton, FL., the country's largest professional employer organization, and a 21-year executive with the former NCNB/NationsBank in the Corporate Banking and Operations areas. He serves as a Director of The TLC Companies of Arden Hills, Minnesota, Chair of the Charlotte chapter of INROADS, and co-President of the UVA-Darden Alumni Chapter in Charlotte. He has been a W&L Class Agent since 1995, participated in the past two Capital Campaigns, and has worked in the past with the Charlotte Alumni Organization. OGILVIE STACY '97 Maggie graduated from Washington and Lee with a B.A. in Art History in 1997. Following graduation, she worked in New York City for an antique frame gallery. Upon returning to Houston in 1999, Maggie spent five years in the private client group practice of CB Richard Ellis, Inc., where she focused on the disposition of office and retail investment properties. Currently, Maggie is an Associate with Spencer Stuart International, a privately held senior-level executive search and consulting firm. Maggie serves on the steering committees of The Studio for the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and Carousel - Young Friends of the Texas Children's Cancer Center, and volunteers at Houston's Star of Hope Mission. While at Washington and Lee, Maggie served on the Executive Committee, the Mock Convention Steering Committee, and the Student Activities Board. She was also a member of Kathekon and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Since graduation, Maggie has served as Class Agent as well as Houston's Alumni Admissions Program Chair. ROGER
REYNOLDS, JR. '88 - Vice President Roger is a founding partner in the financial services provider Catullus Management Corporation, a private investment partnership dedicated to serving the investment and planning needs of a select group of family clients. Roger was most recently a member of the firm Strategic Capital Advisors, based in West Conshohocken, PA, and was responsible for all aspects of that firm's marketing and sales efforts. SCA remains a pioneer in the utilization of active and indexed-based investment managers to exploit specific opportunities and drive total return. Prior to joining SCA, he held a similar position with the Pitcairn Trust Company in Jenkintown, PA, throughout 2001 and 2002. He received his BA degree in History in 1988 from Washington & Lee University. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, a member of the varsity men's lacrosse team from 1986-1988 and co-editor the 1987 Calyx. In the year after graduation, he was employed in Great Britain as a member of the English Lacrosse Union and his responsibilities included teaching, coaching and playing the game throughout the country, accompanied by 12 other American coaches. He has served as the past president of the Philadelphia W&L alumni chapter, was the chair of the 250th anniversary celebration held here in 1999 and is currently the local coordinator of the Alumni Admissions Program throughout the region. Roger began his career in the investment business in 1989 in Philadelphia as a financial consultant with Butcher & Singer, and its successor group, Wheat First Securities. He joined the Rittenhouse Financial Services organization in 1992, where his responsibilities included the delivery of the firm's investment advisory and portfolio management services through the sales forces of major brokerage firms throughout the United States and other third party distribution, including banks and financial planning organizations. Mr. Reynolds was a core member of the team responsible for tripling the firm's assets under management, over $9 billion, before the concern was sold to the John Nuveen company in Chicago in 1997. In 1998, he and several partners founded the Philadelphia Trust Company, at the time the first de novo bank of its kind to be chartered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 15 years. That firm specializes in the management of individual and institutional asset pools and all aspects of trust and estate administration and now manages over $900 million in client assets. Roger is a member of the board of the Gesu School in Philadelphia, an independent Catholic School serving one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. He is the chair of the school's endowment and investment committees. He is also an active alumnus of the Episcopal Academy in Merion, PA where he serves as a class agent and member of the school's major gifts committee. THOMAS C.
SNEDEKER '92 Tom graduated cum laude in 1992, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Special Attainments in Commerce. As an undergraduate, Tom was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, played varsity lacrosse, and served as Treasurer of the Interfraternity Council. He was also a member of the Commerce School Student Board of Advisors and a State Co-Chair for the 1992 Mock Convention.Tom is a past president of the Washington, DC Alumni Board, and previously served as Vice-President and in several other officer positions on the Board. Under his presidency, the Chapter received the Large Chapter of the Year award. He was a Co-Chair of the Washington, DC 250th Anniversary Celebration, and was one of 25 alumni selected to participate for the First National Leadership Forum held on campus in October 1999. He continues to be involved as an at-large board member and as an Alumni Admissions Program volunteer and Chapter Phonathon Coordinator. In his spare time, Tom continues to play lacrosse and enjoys skiing, fishing, hunting and politics. He is actively involved with fundraising for several local charitable organizations.
KATHERINE BOOZER BOONE
'95 Kathy's 11 year career has been with SunTrust Bank where she is currently a Vice President of Corporate & Investment Banking in Orlando working as a portfolio manager in the Florida diversified group. Prior to moving to Orlando in 2004, she worked in Atlanta, underwriting and managing senior debt commitments for middle-market leveraged buyouts led by private equity firms. She also did rotations in commercial and asset-based lending, as well as with mergers & acquisitions and SunTrust Equity Partners.In Atlanta, Kathy served as a member and as chairman of the select gifts committee for the Woodruff Arts Center corporate fundraising campaign and received the Charlie R. Yates award for leadership. She played ALTA tennis and was captain of her 2003 City Championship and Sportsmanship Award winning team. Kathy graduated from W&L in 1995 with a BS in Business Management. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, serving as Treasurer and Second Vice President. She was a member of the developmental varsity women's basketball team and the Student Recruitment Committee; auditor of the Fancy Dress Committee and co-chair of the Volunteer Student Consulting group. As an alumna, Kathy has served as a member and co-chair of the Atlanta Alumni Admissions Program and was on the Georgia steering committee for the Campaign for the Rising Generation. She was10th year reunion co-chair and received the Distinguished Young Alumna Award in 2005. For the Central Florida chapter, Kathy is a member of its Alumni Board and serves as chair of its Alumni Admissions Program. She married Brian Boone in 2004. NAN
ROBERTSON CLARKE '76L A native of Birmingham, AL and an alumna of Sweet Briar College, Nan graduated from Washington and Lee with the Class of 76L, well-known as perennial Intramural Champions. She was the Editor of the Law News her senior year. Following graduation, Nan worked briefly as a lawyer but happily gave up the practice to raise four children with husband and former classmate Hal Clarke, ' 73, '76L. The youngest two, Charlie '05 and Robbie '06, also chose to attend Washington & Lee, following the fine example of not only their parents, but their grandfather Hal Clarke Sr., 38L. Nan and Hal moved to Charlotte from Atlanta in 1995 and since that time have been involved with the activities of the Charlotte Alumni Chapter, including serving on the local Steering Committee for the last Capital Campaign and hosting a party for accepted students. They also served as Class Agents for a number of years. After many years as a community volunteer and a free-lance writer, Nan is currently the Director of Development for Children's Scholarship Fund-Charlotte, a non-profit organization which helps lower-income children attend private schools. She is a member of the Junior League of Charlotte, a former member of the Parents' Council for Charlotte Latin School and best of all, belongs to two book clubs. DANIEL M.
EINSTEIN '83 Dan is a third generation President of Rosenfeld Einstein, an organization that provides thoughtful advice to clients for Property & Casualty Insurance, Employee Benefits, Workplace Safety Consulting and Financial Planning. With a focus on developing long-term relationships, Rosenfeld Einstein has grown to become a significant factor in the South Carolina insurance community. The firm has been recognized by the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America for the past six years as a "Best Practices" Agency, one of only five such firms in South Carolina. Rosenfeld Einstein's clients range from entrepreneurial local businesses and individuals to large national and international firms. In addition to a strategic role in the firm, Dan specializes in the area of professional liability, executive protection and alternative risk funding mechanisms such as captive insurance programs.While at W&L, Dan served as President and Treasurer of Chi Psi Fraternity, as a student member of the Faculty Executive Committee, and as a volunteer tutor to local school children. Dan has previously served as Vice President of the South Carolina Piedmont Alumni Chapter, and chaired the chapter's Alumni Admissions Committee for twelve years. He continues to be an Alumni Admissions volunteer. Dan has served the University as a capital campaign volunteer and attended the National Leadership Forum in Lexington in 1999. Dan and his wife, Liz, have three boys, Andrew (15), William (12) and Charles (10). Dan is an active community volunteer where he currently serves as Treasurer of the Community Foundation of Greater Greenville and recently completed terms as President of the non-profit Greenville Local Development Corporation, and Chairman of the Augusta Circle Elementary School Improvement Council. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Historic Greenville Foundation, the Hughes Academy of Science and Technology School Improvement Council, on the Furman University President's Advisory Council, as an Adult Leader for Boy Scout Troop 19, and as a swim official. Dan enjoys adventure travel—especially in the company of his boys. In the past ten months, Dan completed a ten day trek at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico with son, Andrew; hiked the Grand Canyon "North rim-to-South rim" in a day; and drove a sled and team of sled dogs across part of Quebec with son, William. McBRIDE '88 Originally from Dallas, Tommy came to Washington and Lee from Highland Park High School. He had played soccer in high school and was fortunate enough to be a member of W&L's first soccer ODAC Conference Championship team in 1986 under the coaching of Rolf Piranian. His involvement in soccer also introduced him to Phi Kappa Sigma, where he was president his senior year. He was also Vice President of the Senior Class, a member of the Student Conduct Committee, a member of the Sigma Society. Tommy majored in Journalism and Mass Communications. He and his wife, Laura have three children: Luke (10), Kira (8), and Rainey (6). Tommy still plays soccer and Laura enjoys running marathons. The children enjoy horseback riding and having dad coach their youth soccer teams. They are active members of Park Cities Presbyterian Church and support the RUF ministry at W&L led by John and Laura Pearson. Tommy is a past president of both the Sarasota, Florida and Dallas, Texas chapters. He was a member of the Dallas Area Campaign Committee for both the "On Shoulder of Giants" and "Rising Generation" campaigns. He is proud of the Dallas chapter in their completion of the first Dallas Scholarship in his first campaign and the completion of a second Dallas Scholarship in the most recent campaign. The broad participation by the alumni of the Dallas Chapter shows the spirit and willingness of W&L graduates to make a difference in people's lives. Dallas has had two graduates from W&L through their scholarship program: Lane Cates '00 and Paul Seifert '04 with their third recipient, Jessica Shaw on the way this year. At Tommy's 10th reunion in 1998, he received the Distinguished Young Alumnus Award. Tommy is a First Vice President-Investments and Wealth Management Advisor for Merrill Lynch in their Global Private Client Group. He has worked for Merrill Lynch since 1992 and formed with his partner their current team in 1998. Tommy and his team at Merrill Lynch manage over $750 million dollars for wealthy families across the United States. Tommy attained the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 1998 and the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation in 2001. He is currently pursuing his Masters of Science in Financial Planning. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA), and the Dallas Estate Planning Council. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Dallas Foundation, Texas' Oldest Community Foundation. PETER R.
STROHM '68 While at Washington & Lee, Peter was in the ROTC, eventually becoming a Company Commander. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. For four years, he worked on the Calyx, and in his senior year he was Editor-in-Chief. For all four years, he sang in the Glee Club. He was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa. Peter graduated from Washington & Lee in 1968 with a B.A. cum laude in Economics. Continuing his education, he graduated from Columbia University School of Law with a J.D. in 1971 and from the New York University School of Law, with an LL.M., in 1981. In 1988, he graduated from the United States Command and General Staff College of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. A native of the Shore Area of New Jersey, Peter is a principal in the law firm of Rothstein, Mandell, Strohm, Must & Gertner, in Lakewood, NJ, where he has been since 1971. From 1968 to 1996, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve, eventually retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. For 13 years, he was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgian Court University in Lakewood. Peter serves and chairs several committees of the Ocean County Bar Association and of the New Jersey Supreme Court, including probate, chancery, and judicial appointments. In 2000, he received the Professionalism Award from the New Jersey State Bar Association. In addition to his legal activities, he has been a Vestryman of All Saints Church in Bay Head and has been active in Rotary International. On behalf of Washington & Lee, he has attended numerous college fairs held in local high schools as well as having interviewed potential high school students for Washington & Lee. He has informally held alumni activities at his home for those alumni, parents, and friends of Washington & Lee w ho live in the Jersey Shore area. He hopes someday to formalize this into a Barnegat Bay Chapter of the Alumni Association for these alumni. JOHN H.
WARD, IV '68 John is a native of Louisville, Kentucky, and, upon graduation from Washington and Lee, returned to Louisville to the University of Louisville School of Law, from which he graduated in 1971. First Kentucky Trust Company (now National City Bank, Kentucky) employed him from 1972 until 1975 as a Trust Marketing Officer. In January of 1975, he left first Kentucky Trust Company to enter the life insurance business as an independent broker. He has followed that career in one form or another for the last 30 years. He served as President of Helm, Creznic and Ward, Inc., from 1983 to 2001 and is currently President of John H. Ward and Co. He specializes in sophisticated planning for affluent clients in conjunction with their other advisors. Professionally, he is a member, former board member and past president of the Louisville Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Louisville Bar Association, The National Association of Financial Advisors, The Advanced Association for Life Underwriters (AALU), The American Society of CLU and member and past president of the Louisville Estate Planning Council. He currently serves on the board of the Home of the Innocents and is a member of the Rotary Club of Louisville. He is active in his church, St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, where he is a former vestryman. As a salesman, he has raised money for "just about every charitable organization in Louisville" with specific focus on the Louisville Zoo, St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, and the Boy Scouts of America (where he was a volunteer scout leader for ten years). While at Washington and Lee, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Since graduation, he has served on the Parents Council of Washington and Lee from 1994 until 2005 and has served in all capacities on the Louisville Washington and Lee Alumni Board, which received most Outstanding Chapter Award during his tenure as President. He developed the concept of the Washington and Lee Book Award, which is presented to ten schools within the Louisville metropolitan area. His family claims other W&L graduates, including his father, John H. Ward, III '39, and sons Peter M. Ward '98 and Andrew B. Ward '00. He and his wife, (since 1972) Phyllis, have their fingers crossed for their daughter Elizabeth, whom they hope will be the class of 2013.
Andrew R. Caruthers
'87 A native of Shreveport, LA, Andrew graduated from Washington & Lee in 1987 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He obtained an M.B.A. in 1989 from S.M.U.'s Edwin L. Cox School of Business in an intensive 12 -month program. At W&L, he was elected Vice President of the Student Body, served 4 years on the Executive Committee, and represented the E.C. as lead prosecutor in 3 open Student Body Hearings. He also was elected president of the Phi Delta Theta pledge class and served 2 years each on the Student Conduct Committee (ad hoc member), Student Recruitment Committee, and Kathekon. Finally, he served as Political Researcher for Louisiana's Mock Convention delegation and was chosen for "Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities." After graduation, Andrew worked for the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources in Washington D.C., Wells Fargo Bank in Newport Beach, and the William Morris Agency, Virgin Records, and several other entertainment-related companies in Los Angeles. He coordinated the British Academy's 2002-2003 L.A. screening program, organizing Q&A's with Spielberg, Scorsese, Hanks, Hoffman, Kidman, Steep. the cast of "Chicago," and dozens more. As an alumnus, Andrew served 6 years as Class Agent, 10 years as an Alumni Admissions Program volunteer and recently completed 10 years of service as Chapter President of the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter, which received an award for "Special Recognition" in 1999. Andrew served as the 250th Anniversary Event Chair for the L.A. Chapter's celebration at Spago restaurant and was 1 of 25 alumni invited to participate in W&L's first National Leadership Forum. In 2002, W&L honored Andrew with its "Distinguished Young Alumnus Award." Presently, Andrew is manager of Paladin Pacific, a private investment LLC. He also is advising a Philippines-based fashion design business and for the past year has divided his time between Los Angeles and Manila. He reports he's slowly building a shoe collection with the help of a local former First Lady. Robert S.
Clements '80 Bob graduated from Washington and Lee in 1980 with a B.A. in Journalism. He is a Principal and Executive Vice President at Preston Partners Inc., a commercial real estate company based in Maryland. While attending Washington and Lee, he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He played football for two years and lacrosse for four. He was the Teams MVP his junior and senior year and was second team All American in 1979 and First team All American in 1980. He was inducted into the Washington and Lee Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. He is a trustee at the St. Paul's School for Boys. M. Formidoni '96, '99L Beth graduated from W&L in 1996 with a BA in philosophy and couldn't bear to leave Lexington. She stayed at W &L for three more years, graduating from the law school in 1999. In her third year of law school she served as the Executive Committee President and helped the University celebrate it's 250th anniversary. After graduation, Beth moved to Richmond, Virginia to clerk for the Honorable Elizabeth Lacy of the Supreme Court of Virginia. At the conclusion of her clerkship, Beth moved to New York to work as a tax associate in the New York office of Hunton & Williams. In 2004, Beth left Hunton & Williams for an associate position in McDermott Will & Emery's tax department. She served a three year term on the New York City Bar Association Professional Responsibility Committee, and took on a number of pro bono cases from Human Rights First. In December of 2005, Beth left the practice of law altogether to begin culinary school at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York. Beth and her husband Juan Mendez currently reside in New York City, where Beth serves as a member of the New York Alumni Chapter. Proctor '81 David is a partner with the firm of Johnston Barton Proctor & Powell LLP in Birmingham, Alabama. He served as Recruiting Chairman for a number of years until being elected Managing Partner in January 2005, a position he presently holds. David graduated from Washington & Lee, cum laude, in 1981 with a B.A. in American History. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and held the positions of Rush Chairman and Social Chairman. He then attended The University of Alabama School of Law and received his J.D. in 1984. As an alumnus, David has been active in Washington & Lee alumni affairs for over 20 years, serving as Alumni Admissions Program Chair, Class Agent, a member of the Birmingham Alumni Chapter, and a member of the Reunion Committee for the Class of 1981 25th Class Reunion. Locally, David is a member of the Downtown Rotary Club, Executive Board for the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Board of Directors of the Birmingham Boys Choir, and the Vestry at the Cathedral Church of the Advent (Episcopal). He enjoys golf, fly fishing, and all types of wing shooting. He is married to the former Anne Broyles of Virginia Beach, Virginia, who is an alumna of Mary Baldwin College, Class of 1983. Robinson '75, '82L Following in the footsteps of his father, William H. Robinson, '34A, ,37L, Bill enrolled in W & L in 1971. As an undergraduate, Bill was Photograph Editor of the Ring-Tum-Phi for 4 years, House Manager of Phi Kappa Sigma during his sophomore year and received a two-year ROTC scholarship in his junior year becoming both Airborne and Ranger qualified while still in school. Upon his graduation, Bill fulfilled his military obligation by serving on active duty for four years with Military Intelligence, U.S. Army rising to rank of Captain before resigning his commission. After graduating from the School of Law in 1982, Bill returned to Pittsburgh, to concentrate in the trust and estate field, first working at PNC Bank as a trust officer, later taking over the estate administration practice of Cooper, German and Kelly, P. C. and finally joining Mellon Financial Corporation's Legal Department where he currently holds the title of Vice President and Senior Trust Counsel and has primary responsibilities for providing legal support to Mellon's Private Wealth Management offices in California, Nevada, Ohio and portions of Pennsylvania. During his twenty-four year legal career, he has earned the professional designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP), has become a facility member of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and a co-author of its book "Fundamentals of Estate Planning" and is currently an adjunct professor at Duquesne University's School of Law teaching estate planning to second and third year law students. In addition, Bill is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Pittsburgh, a past member of the Trust Taxation Committee of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association and a former Vice President and Member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Pittsburgh Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners. Bill most recently completed a 2-year term as President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Alumni Association. During his tenure, the Pittsburgh Chapter was rejuvenated, being runner up its division in the Mink's Conference for '03/'04 and winning the award in '04/'05. He continues to serve on the Chapter Board as both its Past President and its Law Liaison. In his off-hours, Bill enjoys woodworking and fly-fishing, although most of his free time is now consumed with raising his 20-month-old daughter, Susie, with his wife, Stephanie, whom he married in 1999. Watkins '88 Brad Watkins joined Flag Bank in 2002 as its Metro Atlanta Region President. Following Flag Bank's 2005 acquisition of First Capital Bank, Watkins assumed new duties as President of the Commercial Real Estate Division, where he serves today. Prior to joining Flag Bank, Watkins served as Senior Vice President and Director in the Corporate & Investment Banking Division of Wachovia Securities. Watkins joined Wachovia in Atlanta in 1988, and also worked in the Sales Finance and Retail Banking divisions during his tenure. Watkins was raised in Auburn and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as well as, Gainesville, Georgia. He is a graduate of The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and holds an MBA from Georgia State University in Atlanta. While at W&L, Watkins was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Treasurer of the Mock Convention, and Kathekon. As an alum, he is President of the Alumni Greek Council, and has served as Class Agent, President of the Atlanta Alumni Board, Chairman of the Atlanta 250 Celebration, and President of the Phi Delt House Corporation. Watkins is active in many community activities. He currently serves on the Public Affairs Committee of the Georgia Bankers Association, the Board of Advisors for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Directors of the Buckhead Business Association. He is a member of the Buckhead Lions Club, the 159 Group, the Urban Land Institute and the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. He also serves on the Annual Corporate Campaign for the Woodruff Arts Center, and is a recipient of the Charles R. Yates Award for excellence in fundraising. In 2005 he married the former Allison English who is a native of Richmond, VA, a 1994 graduate of the University of Virginia, and an employee of Turner Broadcasting. The Watkins' attend the Cathedral of St. Philip, and live the Sherwood Forrest neighborhood of Atlanta. The couple is expecting their first child in September 2006.
